I’m Liv and I’m no fun to watch TV with. Or go to the movies with. Or lend a book to. Because I often have too much to say – whether it be positive or negative – about all things media related.
Welcome to my hub of love and hate, praise and disavow of the television shows, films, and books that shape our society and in turn shape us as viewers, readers, consumers, and followers.
Unfortunately, media criticism has a flippant rep these days thanks to Roger Ebert and his two thumbs. I aim to give a little more insight than he did (with all do respect), plus thumbs kind of freak me out.
I’m a Communication Arts major with a concentration in Critical Media as well as an Economics minor (I know, I know, what is she going to do with that degree) at Marymount Manhattan College. So, I’m educated about this stuff, I’m not completely fullĀ of hot air.
Not to mention, one aspect of living in NYC is the fact that my daily life is completely inundated with media, whether I like it or not. But I’ve become more aware of this mediated frenzy, and being aware, I’ve learned, is the first step to becoming a critic and not just a bystander.
So, join me in voicing new thoughts about the media we can’t get away from. Apologies in advance if I irk you so much, you can’t watch your favorite show the same way again. This was done to me, so I’m just paying it forward.
Yours truly,
Liv
